About Us
We are a group of amateur radio operators dedicated to providing agencies we serve with auxiliary communication resources. Our group has extensive experience, training and background in interoperable communications. Officers with GCARES include certified Auxiliary Communicators recognized by the State of Michigan, Communication Unit Leaders, Professional Emergency Managers, and an Incident Command System Instructor.
From new amateur radio operators getting started in public service to experienced professionals – we have a place for anyone wishing to serve their community!

What We Do
- Use skills as amateur radio operators to serve our community at events, parades, drills and exercises.
- Deploy to ensure outdoor severe weather sirens are functioning properly.
- Use our SKYWARN severe weather spotting skills to provide ground truth for the National Weather Service and advanced warning to the public.
- We train operators in the incident command system (ICS). We provide advanced training in interoperable communications. We develop capabilities needed in the field of technology, communications and manpower for our served agencies.
- Participate in local, regional and statewide exercises, scheduled emergency tests, and drills to keep our skills sharp and up to date
